Nairobi is vast and offers great opportunities to keep fit and stay active. There are many places to walk, run and cycle, hence making it easy to have a healthy lifestyle.
Here are six suggestions:
Walk to and from CBD, easy as ABC
Nairobi is a great place to walk. The working class, mostly civil servants, work within town and waste a lot of money on Ubers, fuel and public transport. An adult is required to walk for 30 minutes a day in order to prevent weight gain. Why not save a little bit of money by walking a few blocks, streets and even through the beautiful Uhuru Park? This in the long-run will reduce your hospital bills and will also be good for the environment as we reduce the using the carbon-emitting city buses.
Burn It Out at the Gym
There are numerous gyms within the city, and there’s no better way to burn all those calories than hitting a gym. Most urban apartments have gyms that are free for their residents, so catching up with a friend over a work-out session at these facilities, is a good way to stay fit.
Head to the Forest
Most people tend to run around their estates surrounded by cars honking and pedestrians walking on the footpaths. Why not head to Karura Forest for a peaceful run as you connect with nature? The vastness of the forest ensures that you can run, walk and even cycle as fast or as slow as you wish as you interact with nature and inhale fresh air.
At a small fee, you are in for a treat. There are various routes through different terrains and waterfalls, and if you are lucky, you get to see a few wildlife as you cut along the dirt paths. Finish it off by eating a healthy meal in one of the restaurants located in or a few miles from the forest.
The Early Bird
There are breathtaking views of the city every morning as the sun rises from the east. An early morning walk or run, depending on the weather and location, promises an enchanting view of Mt Kenya, a silhouette of the skyscrapers and a golden sun.
Spa It Out
There are numerous certified spas in the city where you can relax as you enjoy massages. This will relax your mind after a busy week and get your energy back.
